WordPress weekly photo challenge: an unusual POV

Today I’m participating in the WordPress weekly photo challenge and this week’s theme is “an unusual POV (point of view)”. Here’s what a trip to the San Diego zoo looks like from my kids’ perspective.

First we had a chance to see a 14-year old Timber wolf. It felt great to be so close to such an amazing animal.

Then we stumbled upon this mama peacock who was walking around the zoo with her little baby peacocks. A first experience for all of us.

At the children’s zoo, we saw the results of baking a bread house with the mice inside. :-)  We tried really hard to see the rest of their bodies but they wouldn’t budge. I guess it was comfortable in there.

Finally we stopped by the panda exhibit. While baby panda was sleeping high up in the trees, his mom was pigging out on bamboo –  one bamboo shot in each paw, alternating her munching from one to the other. You can see pandas have a hard life at the San Diego zoo.

That’s it for our little trip from last week!

WordPress weekly photo challenge: Kiss

We kiss and hug a lot at our house. No, I don’t have any cute kissing photos to share with you, but this love note should prove my point. It’s taped to our kitchen cabinet along with a few other love notes I shared in yesterday’s post on Valentine’s Day.

Now, if you’re looking for a photo of a very passionate kiss, you’ve come to the right place. I posted it on this blog a couple of years ago and it fits this WordPress weekly photo challenge theme perfectly.

If you’ve never seen killer whales kissing, this is what it looks like. Yes, these orcas are French kissing! And they did this for about 10 minutes the day I took this photo. Thank you, SeaWorld San Diego, for showing me that tongue kissing is so popular among marine mammals. I had no idea. You can click on the photo to see this kiss from up close.

WordPress weekly photo challenge: Big

It must be in our nature to like “big”. Early on in life, little kids grab the big toys, ask for the bigger piece of cake and the big balloon, and they want to be bigger themselves. It doesn’t seem to get any better as we move into adulthood. We like big TVs, big trucks, big homes, big boobs…When I visited the U.S. for the first time as a teenager, I was shocked to see how much bigger everything was compared to France. Bigger buildings, bigger roads, bigger cars, bigger food portions, bigger people… I admit it was a culture shock. Even today, I can still get surprised.

Here are a few examples of “big” in my life, sorted by size. Do you like bigger or smaller things?

BIG – kid-size Knufflebunny, when we went to see Mo Willems and listen to him read his books. That was a lot of fun.

BIGGER – this pelican at the San Diego Safari Park. A little spooky… I can only imagine how huge pterodactyls looked.

BIGGEST – the Eiffel Tower, of course!
